Areas of Focus: EMDR, Emotional Regulation, Behavioral Management
Ages Served: Adolescents, Adults (EMDR)
Hello my name is James Broadnax,
I’m a licensed clinical therapist and doctoral student in Criminology, Law, and Justice at UIC. I work with adolescents and adults, with a particular interest in helping people understand what’s beneath the behaviors, emotions, and patterns that bring them to therapy.
For young people, therapy starts with curiosity, connection, and understanding what their emotions and behaviors may be trying to communicate. I create a space where adolescents can be themselves, feel genuinely understood, and make sense of what they’re experiencing. We work on emotional regulation, anxiety, depression, stress, behavioral challenges, and difficult life experiences while building skills they can carry beyond the therapy room.
For adults, I help clients navigate trauma, anxiety, depression, and life transitions with greater clarity and self-trust. My approach is trauma-informed, relational, and integrative, grounded in the belief that lasting change begins with understanding, not judgment.
I don’t believe people need to be “fixed.” I believe they deserve a space where someone is willing to understand the full story.
